Beyond the species list
A sense of place.
Camiguin Norte is the northern Camiguin, in the Babuyan Islands of the Luzon Strait. Camiguin de Babuyanes volcano gives this island its volcanic character. It belongs to the municipality of Calayan in Cagayan.
Landscape & habitats
The island combines volcanic relief with a marine edge. Its surrounding reefs, illustrated in the photograph, are a different environment from the slopes above the shoreline.
This is not the Camiguin beside Mindanao, which is listed separately as Camiguin Sur.

Zoogeography
An individual lineage history in the Babuyans
Camiguin Norte belongs to the northern Babuyan group, outside the main Greater Luzon island complex. Genetic and morphological work on northern Philippine geckos found its population evolutionarily distinct from those on other islands.
This is a useful example of differentiation across short-looking sea gaps. The regional pattern provides context for studying snakes, but gecko relationships are not a substitute for snake specimens or locality records.
How to read the historical island groups
During Pleistocene glacial periods, lower sea levels exposed shallow seabeds and joined some present-day islands. Biogeographers call these reconstructed landmasses Pleistocene Aggregate Island Complexes (PAICs). Deep channels continued to separate others. This model helps explain regional similarities, but dispersal, older geology and habitat differences also shaped each fauna.
“Endemic” means restricted to a stated area; a Philippine endemic need not be confined to one island. The account above summarises published regional and local research. It does not add occurrences to the snake index below.

These are explicit source mentions, not a complete island richness estimate. Fine localities and habitat associations remain separate evidence claims.
A source naming Camiguin Norte does not establish occurrence in every municipality, protected area, or habitat on the island.
