Habitats of Indonesia
Seasonal forest & savanna
Open hills, wooded patches and seasonal contrasts.

Understanding the environment
A sense of the habitat.
Indonesia includes strongly seasonal landscapes as well as rainforest. In the Komodo area, savanna and deciduous monsoon forest create a vegetation mosaic. This is one Lesser Sunda example, not a description of every island in the chain.

Exposure and grassland
Open hills
Open grassy slopes expose the shape of the hills. In the Komodo landscape, broad open areas sit beside sheltered bays and patches of woody vegetation.
Compare the exposed ridgelines with the more sheltered valleys.
Conceptual habitat structure, not a measured transect or a species range.
Indonesian examples.
UNESCO describes dry savanna, monsoon forest and coastal environments within the Komodo property. The linked occurrence pages distinguish Komodo from Flores, Sumbawa and Timor rather than spreading one island record across the chain.
Conservation context
What matters here?
Maintaining the local vegetation mosaic requires site-specific management evidence. This guide does not prescribe burning or clearing and does not assign a uniform threat trend to all Lesser Sunda islands.
