Distribution

The imported checklist explicitly questions Philippine occurrence (Philippines ?). No island has been inferred.

Evidence & scope

Literature documented · Distribution field

Island-level evidence does not define continuous occupancy.

Reproduction

The species account records egg-laying reproduction. A verified Philippine clutch-size range, incubation interval and breeding calendar are not established here.

Venom classification not yet added · Effects not yet summarised in this atlas

Observe from a distance. Do not handle, corner or capture a snake to identify it. An incomplete venom account is not evidence that a species is safe to handle.

After a suspected snakebite, keep the person still and arrange urgent medical care. Avoid tight tourniquets, cutting, suction and unproven remedies. Do not wait to identify the snake before seeking help.

Taxonomic and source notes

Similar species: Gaulke (1996) allocates Oligodon specimens form Sibutu to O. meyerinkii but notes the similarity in coloration with O. octolineatus. Distribution: The latest record of this species from Sulawesi is from DE ROOIJ, 1917. DE LANG & VOGEL (2005) and Koch 2012: 318 thus consider this species as doubtful for this island. Type locality: Schneider did not provide a type locality, although his specimen was most likely from Java (Mertens 1969). Synonymy mostly after TILLACK & GÜNTHER 2010.
